LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS? |
One of the greatest fears people have of hypnosis is that they will lose awareness. The reality is that communication takes place during hypnosis, and an unconscious person would not be able hear and respond to the hypnotherapist. In fact hypnosis is a focused and heightened state of awareness.

LOSS OF CONTROL/SURRENDER OF WILL? |
This is a popular myth, that is exploited by TV, novels etc. The ironic thing is that hypnotherapists work hard to enable people regain control over various different aspects of their lives, facilitating change. The person being hypnotised is always in control, not the hypnotherapist. The role of the hypnotist is one of guidance, and the development of the hypnotic state.

WEAK MINDEDNESS ? |
Contrary to popular belief studies actually show a correlation/relationship between intelligence and hypnotizability. Highly hypnotizable people are usually independent, imaginative and highly intelligent individuals.
|
REVELATION OF SECRETS? |
Hypnosis does not mean a person is incapable of lying, and people do not reveal intimate details they would not discuss during a waking state. However, to obtain the best results from your sessions, you need to trust the hypnotherapist to discuss the issues you wish to change. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, perhaps you need to find a different hypnotherapist.

FEAR OF GETTING 'STUCK' IN HYPNOSIS? |
There are two reasons that a person remains in a hypnotic state.
1. You fall into a natural sleep, from which you will inevitably wake, or 2. The hypnotic state is so pleasurable you may not wish to leave it. Since control lies with the individual, you will have no difficulty in terminating the hypnotic state. |
HYPNOSIS AGAINST WILL? |
Hypnosis will only be successful if there is trust and co-operation between the hypnotherapist and the person. You cannot be hypnotised to do anything that goes against your beliefs and values. You would either emerge immediately from hypnosis, or post hypnosis, ignore any suggestions given during the session.

Absolutely. Many childhood ailments are symptoms of suppressed emotions children don't know how to handle. How many times have you heard people say, 'she/he'll grow out of it'? Asthma, bed-wetting, nail biting etc. Hypnosis is a safe, non-evasive way of handling these problems in children 7 years old or over.
